Bitique v1.5 Launched

Bitique v1.5 Launched

First of all, this isn’t one of my graphics, it is a new poster by the brilliant Wim Crouwel that adorns the launch day of Bitique. We were hacked about three months ago by some Indian bloke that left his personal email address in the profile login for WordPress, like some really geeky Batman villain trying to get a ransom or something.

Neil and I had been discussing what we wanted to do with Bitique since we were both freelance now and could probably devote more time to the project. We have come up with some great ideas on where we want to take it but in the meantime decided to just get an intermediate version of the site back up, hence the new version.

When I was redeveloping it, aside from security, I wanted to strip back a lot on the devices used and also implement a vertical grid as well as a horizontal one, keeping the vertical rhythm consistent. So I implemented a 960px grid system using four 220px columns but with a line-height grid of 16px in proportional sizes. Using fluid images on the posts it means that we will be able to use the larger images from the older posts on v2.0 which should be ready in the new year.

Thanks to HTML5 Boilerplate which is my invaluable little tool at the moment, although I cannot be bothered to do the 20 minute tutorial on running the build script. If it were around 8 minutes I would probably do it, but I hear FIFA 12 calling…
